What a day we had down at the Dee!

Sunshine, Song and Special Moments

What a day we had down at the Dee!

On Tuesday 29th April, Openhouse Folk welcomed friends old and new to our first daytime folk gathering at the Dee Sailing Club—and we’re still smiling about it.

What a beautiful setting we had! The views from the sailing club stretched right across the water to the Welsh hills and the weather showed up for us in a big way, and so did you! It was great to see so many familiar and new faces join us for the occasion.

The afternoon kicked off with a lively jingle from Brian Jones, then soon joined by Roger Parker, and together they delivered a spirited opening set that had the room engaged from the get-go—plenty of rhythm, banter, and big energy to get us going.

Next up was the Jones Family Band, bringing their trademark harmonies, foot-tapping favourites and a whole lot of laughs!

The energy in the room continued to build as the Tom Topping Band took to the stage, reunited and sounding as vibrant as ever. For the second half of the show, they were joined by the Jones Family Band, and together created a joy-filled set that had toes tapping, hands clapping, and voices singing!

We even had a surprise sea shanty led by a special guest on stage, Mal Lowe, proving once again that folk music is at its finest when it’s spontaneous and shared.

The Dee Sailing Club made the perfect setting—easy to get to, full of character, and with views that were simply unbeatable. There was a real sense of community in the room, and we’re already looking forward to the next daytime session.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, shared a song or a story, and helped make the afternoon special.

We’re looking forward to next time.
