Don’t Close Your Eyes

Hi Everyone

Here is another long-time favourite of mine; ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ sung by Laura Jones, a brand new lockdown recording featuring Brian Jones and Tom Baker, which will certainly get you singing.

Over to my Dad to tell you a bit more about this one.

“I have been enjoying my time finding songs from recordings that span some fifty plus years. Some I had completely forgotten about as well as some which would have remained unfinished. 

Sam once said “The only way we’re going to get to hear all these songs is if we lock you in the studio and not let you out until you’ve completed the project”. Funny how things turn out isn’t it?

Well, as one thing has a tendency to lead to another, my enthusiasm to record some new stuff has recently returned. 

Laura asked me if she could record Don’t Close Your Eyes written by American country star Keith Whitley. 

I remember hearing this song on the Radio 2 Country Show in 1989 which followed the news that he had sadly passed away at the age of just 33.

I instantly fell in love with the song and it has remained a Jones Family favourite ever since.

I have often teased Laura saying she should be the singer in a country band so I called my old mate Tom Baker of Broken Strings (who we featured in a guest spot a short while ago) and asked if he would add some of his brilliant signature electric guitar licks to the track.

In this time when we can’t get out much, it’s been good to take a trip over the folky border!”
