MUSIC
Angela Booth

Curtains shut against the daylight, not caring if the skies were blue or grey, knowing it’s just another day I had to get through.
At night, not looking up at the stars, because the blackness already smothers me and nobody else is here looking at them too.
But sometimes music can lift me above this to times where I cease to exist, falling out of reality into that dreamlike trance.
I’d listen to that song a hundred times and still want to listen more, for that glimpse of hope that gave me a chance.
It was a wonderful place to be, hidden away from the fear of the world, alone in my bed.
Immersed in the lyrics, hanging on to the melody and the harmony like a silver thread.
Real life had been harsh, left me with many scars crossing my body and had pierced my heart and soul.
Not knowing if I had the will to face reality or even the energy to rise up and set a goal.
The music let me leave all that behind, let me float above all that was real, lifted me up to another place.
Some days just to drift on a cloud of warm air, other days to let the tears flow, hot streams bathing my face.
Leaving me cleansed of all badness, all sadness, leaving me utterly exhausted so I could finally rest.
Hard to explain how a song gives you life, how music takes you to a place where you are blest.

Thank you for the music.
